Dumbara Cushion Covers

The cushions come in two sizes: large (28"x28") and small (18"x18").

These cushion covers are handmade in Sri Lanka. "Dumbara" or "mist-laden" is a  reference to the region of origin of this weaving tradition, the mountainous central hill country.

The colors and patterns are distinctive of medieval Sri Lankan art, especially of the last kingdom of Kandy(1469-1815) in the central hills. The kingdom of Kandy resisted foreign occupation for almost 350 years and finally fell to the British in 1815. Although this particular weaving tradition has indigenous roots, the patterns have been heavily influenced over the centuries by Indian and Arab visitors to Sri Lanka.
